What is the most important thing God is saying right now?

Someone was once asked that very question: “Do you know what God is saying in this season?” The person confidently answered, “Yes. God wants us to love Him with all of our heart, soul, and mind, and to love others as we love ourselves.” Then he added, “And God will still be saying this next year—and the year after that.”

This is absolutely true according to Scripture. Jesus Himself said that these are the greatest commandments. Everything God desires from humanity begins with love—not religious performance, outward works, or spiritual knowledge alone, but genuine love for Him and for one another.

But here’s the key: We cannot love God or others unless we first know and receive God’s love for us.

It is one thing to quote “God loves me,” but another to believe it in your heart—to be transformed by it. Only the love of God can free us from sin, heal our brokenness, and give us the strength to love others sincerely.

📖 What Jesus Said Matters Most

Matthew 22:37–40 (NLT)

“‘You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. A second is equally important: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ The entire law and all the demands of the prophets are based on these two commandments.”

Explanation: All of God’s laws hang on these two truths. Loving God completely and loving others practically is the foundation for every command in the Bible.

💖 We Love Because God First Loved Us

1 John 4:7–21 (NLT)

“God showed how much he loved us by sending his one and only Son into the world so that we might have eternal life through him.” (v. 9)
“We love each other because he loved us first.” (v. 19)

Explanation: Love doesn’t begin with us. It begins with God. His love empowers us to love others, even when it’s difficult.

🙏 Prayer Opens Us to His Love

Ephesians 3:18–19 (NLT)

“And may you have the power to understand… how wide, how long, how high, and how deep his love is. May you experience the love of Christ, though it is too great to understand fully.”

Explanation: Paul prayed that we wouldn’t just know God loves us, but that we would experience it. God’s love fills us and changes us.

🧡 Loving God Means Obeying Him

John 14:15, 23 (NLT)

“If you love me, obey my commandments… All who love me will do what I say.”

Explanation: Loving God is more than words. It’s shown through obedience—choosing His ways over ours, not to earn love, but because we love Him.

💞 Love Like Jesus Did

John 15:12–13 (NLT)

“This is my commandment: Love each other in the same way I have loved you. There is no greater love than to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.”

Explanation: Jesus gave everything for us. We’re called to reflect that sacrificial love toward others.

💢 Love Even Your Enemies

Matthew 5:44–45 (NLT)

“Love your enemies! Pray for those who persecute you! In that way, you will be acting as true children of your Father in heaven.”

Explanation: God’s love reaches everyone—even those who reject or hurt us. Loving like God means loving without conditions.

❤️ What Love Looks Like

1 Corinthians 13:4–7 (NLT)

“Love is patient and kind… It does not demand its own way… It never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance.”

Explanation: Love is action, not just emotion. This is the standard by which we are called to live.

🙌 Prayer is Your Lifeline to God

1 Thessalonians 5:16–18 (NLT)

“Always be joyful. Never stop praying. Be thankful in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you who belong to Christ Jesus.”

Explanation: Prayer keeps us connected to God’s heart. It helps us remain thankful and rooted in love.

📖 The Lord’s Prayer

Matthew 6:9–13 (NLT)

“Our Father in heaven, may your name be kept holy. May your Kingdom come soon. May your will be done on earth, as it is in heaven…”

Explanation: Jesus taught us how to pray with a focus on relationship—our Father, not just our God. Prayer is how we seek His will, not just His help.

🧱 Foundation Before Mission

Important truth:

“The second greatest sin is putting the Great Commission before the Great Commandment.”

Ministry and mission must flow from love. We cannot truly reach others if we haven’t first received and shared God’s love. God wants our hearts, not just our hands.

🧠 Final Thought

God’s greatest desire is not for us to merely serve Him—but to know Him and love Him. Once we’re filled with His love, we are empowered to love others the way He does. From that love flows all obedience, all mission, and all purpose.

“We love each other because he loved us first.” – 1 John 4:19 (NLT)

Let’s start there. Love God. Love people.
